the sardonic stylings of a post-modern something

I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat, or a prostitute. -Rebecca West {block:Permalink}

March is women’s history month. I bet you did not know that. I found out about it two years ago when I saw all these feminist books on display at the local library. I thought to myself, “Hmm…why all these feminist books? Something must be fishy…”

The fishy thing was that it was currently women’s history month and I did not know about it!

Now everyone should know that since the age of, God knows how long, I have been a feminist. My earliest accounts of my first feminist ideals were on the playground when I was five. It was customary for all the boys and a few hard ass girls like myself, to play Ninja Turtles. But, here’s the catch, only the alpha male could portray Shredder. Too bad my five-year-old quick wit and intimidation scared him shitless. On that day in 1989, I WAS Shredder.

I had slight influence from my parents since then, because they were true believers in individuality. This meant I could express myself however I wanted, within their realm of morals, and they would support it. When I was six, my mom bought me a book called “Jane and the Dragon,” which is still one of my favorite books to this day. In the story, the heroine, Jane has to rescue a wussy ass knight from being mauled by a dragon. Enough to prime youngsters into the couter-culture of what I like to call, the Feminazis, which are different than true to God feminists, but that’s a whole nother point I’m not getting into.

This is one of many reasons, why I am the oddly ecclectic, overly-opinionated and cutely blunt person I am today.

 So to say the least, Women’s History Month excites me. There are so many women in history that chose to go against the grain of society, and that inspires me. Most recently, it has been Ms. Pac-Man who has been an inspiration to me. May the short video embedded explain more…

Thank you to Megan Chuhran for showing me this glorious video. :)
